What is peer support, and how does it differ from individual therapy?
Non-Clinical
Our peer support specialists are not therapists who diagnose and treat mental illness. Instead, peers are individuals with lived expertise and specialized training in supporting others.
Non-Heirarchical
Peer support is a mutual partnership in which both parties learn and grow rather than a relationship between a professional and a client.
Community-Based
Meetings with peers often occur in the community (coffee shops, parks, libraries, etc.) rather than in a therapy office.
Grounded in Lived Expertise
Peers have a wide variety of lived experiences. This may include being diagnosed with a mental illness, navigating community resources, managing substance use challenges, and much more.
